Of epics and history: The Great Indian Novel By Dr. Shashi Tharoor
The great indian novel (630 pgs long) is a book that uniquely combines the magic of the holy Mahabharata with the freedom struggle of India; in an attempt to prove that the mahabharata is still relevant in these days. And it serves this purpose pretty well.
It captures the Indian heroes of 3000 B.C. and 1900 A.D., it captures their bravery, their grit, their courage, their sacrifice for the bigger truth. I was shocked to see that how much the mahabharata can resemble our day to day occurences. This book proved the uniqueness of the indian subcontinent in a wonderful way. every Indian should read this. and if possible even others.
